This was our view of the Strasburg Express vs. Charlottesville TomSox game on July 9th. It’s the Valley Baseball League – “Gateway to the Majors.” Yes, some current major leaguers have gone through this league of college players – notably Daniel Murphy, formerly of the NY Mets and currently the Washington Nationals. He even played for the Luray team! While Luray does not host a team right now, there are teams throughout the Shenandoah Valley, closest to us in New Market, Woodstock, Strasburg and Front Royal. Small crowds in intimate venues with low admission makes these games delightful. And the level of play is surprisingly good! The game we saw ended in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10th inning.
This is just one thing to do in the Valley. The VBL season is June and July, but other attractions – the Caverns, the River, the Mountains – are open all year round. Come for a visit!
