My college campus was sprinkled with magnolias, which came into full bloom in early May, coinciding with the end of the spring semester. That was in New Jersey. Here in the Shenandoah Valley the blooms start a month earlier, a harbinger of spring. As you can see from the photo, the grass is just starting to green up and the trees are yet without leaves, but the process of spring will soon accelerate.
This is a great time for a getaway at River Dell! It’s not just nature coming to life – everything that has been dormant for the winter is also. The Shenandoah River Outfitters, Skyland and Big Meadow up on the Skyline Drive are all open. And Luray is beginning to buzz with anticipation for the upcoming season! The last weekend was the first ever Arts Festival in town, with a wonderful variety of art, crafts and music; the first Saturday in May is the annual Festival of Spring on Main Street. And of course, the Caverns and the mountain trails never close!
Come see us! We’d love to have you.
