When John Denver wrote “almost heaven, west Virginia – Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River,” this is not what he pictured. Yes, the river does freeze, but it is unusual. With most of the east coast, the several day span of frigid temperatures we experienced produced this for us. It’s still beautiful – but not “heaven.”

River Dell is a great place for a winter weekend getaway. Less than 100 miles from Washington, DC, it’s an easy drive. There’s still much to do in the area – a lot of the tourist attractions are still open and it is still remarkably beautiful here. Make a reservation! We would love to have you.

By the way, it’s forecast to be nearly 60 here by the end of the week. Closer to “heaven!”
